David has been birding for 70 years. He started in the Wirral where he was born before moving to Scotland in Jan 1969. After a few years, he took over Charlie Palmar’s Bird watching Class at Kelvingrove later moving the Introduction to Bird watching Class to Williamwood, Glasgow which ran for about 35 years.
Area organiser for South Lanarkshire for the first BTO Breeding Bird Atlas and a surveyor for the others BTO Atlas projects. He became an A Ringer in about 1962, but now confine's his ringing to visits to the Isle of May. David has birded in most of the UK counties and remote islands. He is into world birding in a big way, having been lucky enough to travel to every continent and seen near enough half of the world total bird species. He's a keen sea- watcher - mainly these days at Fife Ness and spends at least one week birding on the Isle of May. Long standing bibliophile who has amassed an important and valuable library. Keen interest in The Great Auk and has published papers with Prof. Tim Birkhead and Errol Fuller on this subject.
