Clyde Big Birding Day - May 11th 2024
The Results
Clyde Big Birding Day 2024 saw over 1,600 records submitted to BirdTrack by 51 different observers from 105 sites. We recorded 133* species.
The overall number of species is similar to the last couple of years but there are some interesting variations in the species recorded this year.
There were seven new species on the list this year vs last year which were Mandarin Duck, Turnstone, Wood Sandpiper, Mediterranean Gull, Red-throated Diver, Goshawk and Twite, but seven species that were seen last year were not recorded this year. Those were Pochard, Bar-tailed Godwit, Woodcock, Golden Eagle, Merlin, Lesser Whitethroat and Ring Ouzel.
Based on the records submitted to BirdTrack at time of writing (15 May), a number of species were only recorded at one site during the day - these included Common Crossbill, Dipper, Gadwall, Goldeneye, Little Egret, Long-eared Owl, Mandarin Duck, Pink-footed Goose, Red Grouse, Reed Warbler, Rock Pipit, Short-eared Owl, Whimbrel and Wood Sandpiper.
Collectively we've now seen 143 species in Clyde on the second Saturday in May over the last three years.
Thanks to everyone who took part. It is a great team effort across the Clyde from our birding community. If you still have records to add to BirdTrack then please do add these over the coming days.
