Discussion Group
Purpose: All, whether SOC members or not, and at all levels of experience / ability are welcome to join us. Just email [email protected]
The idea is to share ideas, match experienced people with those wanting to learn from others, see how we can fill gaps in knowledge of both species and poorly-recorded sites.

Next meeting: As it is the fieldwork season, we are having a break from indoor meetings. They will resume in September. We will be active outdoors of course and hope you will get involved.
Current Focus: The initial meetings of the Discussion Group have seen the members agree to focus on eight species - Goosander, Tree Sparrow, Raven, Yellowhammer, Nuthatch, Rook, Cuckoo and Kingfisher.
Discussion group members, John and Judith Chapman, have written up their experiences of watching the 8 focus species in the Clyde area. It is beautifully illustrated.

We have produced a map of where these eight species were recorded on BirdTrack in the Clyde area in 2022. You can clearly see that the Lanarkshires (especially South) are very poorly represented. If you live or visit places such as Biggar, Coalburn, Crawfordjohn, Daer Reservoir, Kirkmuirhill, Lanark, Leadhills, Stonehouse, Wiston, etc please submit some records to in order to increase our knowledge. See Recording and Reporting birds for more information.
