PRICE: Free
TIME: 10:00 – approx. 15:00
LEADER: Lang Stewart
VENUE: Meet at the RSPB Baron's Haugh car park (Grid Ref NS 755552), Post code ML1 2PZ.
TRAVELLING: We encourage car-sharing, so if you are willing to offer a lift, or would like a lift, please contact Ania Owsianka ([email protected]) to arrange.
BIRDS WE HOPE TO SEE: A good variety woodland and wetland birds. With luck we might see the elusive Water Rail, and possibly a Kingfisher or an Otter on the Clyde. Detailed information about this area can be found on the SOC's excellent App "Where to Watch Birds in Scotland".
TERRAIN: Mostly gravel paths.
OPTICS: Binoculars are essential and a telescope would be useful.
FOOTWEAR and CLOTHING: Sturdy boots and suitable outdoor clothing. A check of the weather forecast is advisable.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Regrettably, there are no toilets or any other facilities on the reserve. Please bring a packed lunch.
The Baron’s Haugh wetland has recently been restored to its original function of a natural floodplain by creating a break in the artificial bund between the river Clyde and the wetland. This means that the walking routes around the reserve have changed, and wildlife has benefited.
NB: This outing may be postponed due to poor weather. Please check SOC Clyde branch website (www.birdsinclyde.scot) and Clyde Birding on Twitter in advance.
