PRICE: Free

TIME: 10:00 – 15:30

LEADER: Toby Wilson, Senior Conservation Officer, RSPB.

VENUE:  Meet at Earls Court car park, Riverside View, Alloa.  Postcode FK10 1BU; Grid Ref NS 88909205;  Search on Google maps for plus code 4656+8PW Alloa. There is free on-street parking if the small car park is full.
We will spend the first couple of hours at Black Devon Wetlands on the north side of the Forth, then drive over the Clackmannanshire Bridge to RSPB Skinflats on the south side, where we will have a picnic lunch and continue birding.
For RSPB Skinflats, Postcode FK2 8PW Grid Ref NS 91998592 or search on Google Maps for plus code 3737+PR6 Falkirk
N.B. Grid references and plus codes are more accurate than postcodes, but a postcode works on a satnav!

TRAVELLING:  Alloa railway station is about 20 minutes walk from the entrance to Black Devon Wetlands.  However, all those coming by train will need a lift to Skinflats, and back to the station at the end of the day.  We encourage car-sharing, so if you are coming by car and are willing to offer a lift, or would like a lift, please contact Ania Owsianka ([email protected]) to arrange.

BIRDS WE HOPE TO SEE:  We expect to see newly-arrived warblers (Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Sedge Warbler, Whitethroat, Grasshopper Warbler), some breeding waders (Redshank, Lapwing, Oystercatcher), as well as Snipe, Little Egret, Common Tern, Kestrel, Reed Bunting, Tree Sparrow, Yellowhammer and common waterfowl.

BOOKING INFO: There is no requirement to book, but it would be helpful to have an indication of numbers a few days in advance. Please contact Ania Owsianka ([email protected]).

TERRAIN: Flat, but may be muddy.

OPTICS: Binoculars are essential and a telescope would be useful.

FOOTWEAR and CLOTHING: Sturdy boots and warm, waterproof clothing.  It is advisable to check the weather forecast beforehand.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: At RSPB Black Devon Wetlands there are no toilet facilities and only a little shelter. Toilets at Morrisons or Asda in Alloa.
At RSPB Skinflats there are toilets and picnic benches.  If the weather is poor, we can shelter indoors.  Tea and coffee will be provided.

NB: This outing may be postponed due to poor weather. Please check SOC Clyde branch website (www.birdsinclyde.scot) and Clyde Birding on Twitter in advance.
