Outing to:

Baron's Haugh
Saturday 6th May 2023
Saturday 6th May 2023
PRICE: Free
TIME: 10:00 - approx. 14:00
VENUE:
Park at the RSPB Baron's Haugh car park (Grid Ref NS755552). Meet in the car park.
Regrettably there are no toilet facilities on the reserve.
BOOKING INFO: We are not asking participants to book, but if many people turn up, we may have to split into smaller groups.
TERRAIN: Mostly gravel paths, but with a moderate slope from the car park down to the hides.
It is possible to avoid the moderate slope by exiting the car park and turning right through the gate and along a track.
OPTICS: Binoculars essential and scope very useful.
FOOTWEAR and CLOTHING: Walking boots ideally, and appropriate clothing for the conditions.
NB: May be postponed due to poor weather. Check this page, SOC website and Clyde Birding on Twitter in advance.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The walk will be led by Lang Stewart, who knows the area well. The pace of the walk will be fairly relaxed and the ambience informal, with discussion and questions encouraged. The outing is suitable for birdwatchers of all levels.
Please bring a packed lunch.
We hope to see a variety of woodland birds including spring migrants, and with good views over the pools and the Clyde, perhaps a Kingfisher or an Otter.
Lang suggests a combination of walking around Dalziel Woods for woodland birds like Jay, Nuthatch and summer migrants and a stroll down to Baron's Haugh past the Phoenix Hide to 'warblers corner' and back.
In the past Lang has seen and photographed many migrants at the area including Grasshopper and Garden Warbler.
HEALTH AND SAFETY:
The path on the side of the river at several places will have Health & Safety implications, and caution is advised, due to flooding causing erosion and destroying the path in places. It is not safe now to do the traditional circular route, so a shorter than usual walk at Baron's Haugh will be combined with Dalziel Woods.
