Saturday 11th February 2023
PRICE: Free
TIME: 10:00 - approx. 14:00
VENUE: Meet at the car park by the coast at the south end of Fairlie (Grid Ref NS206545 ; Post Code KA29 0EW; Google Map reference ).
The car park is half a mile or a 10 minute walk from Fairlie Station. Trains every hour from Glasgow Central.
BOOKING INFO: We are not asking participants to book, but if many people turn up, we may have to split into smaller groups.
TERRAIN: Mostly tarmac and gravel paths, on either gently sloping or level ground. Some paths may be tricky due to winter flooding.
OPTICS: Binoculars essential; scope advised if you have one but please be prepared to carry it for about 1 kilometre.
FOOTWEAR and CLOTHING: Walking boots ideally, and appropriate clothing for the conditions.
NB: May be postponed due to poor weather. Check this page, SOC website and Clyde Birding on Twitter in advance.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
We will walk along Fairlie south bay, then drive to Hunterston. The pace of the walk will be fairly relaxed and the ambience informal, with discussion and questions encouraged. The outing is suitable for birdwatchers of all levels.
Toilets, drinks and food are available in Morrison's in Largs and at the Village Inn towards the north end of Fairlie.
There is also a petrol station for food and fuel at the north end of Fairlie.
Please bring a packed lunch.
We expect to see a variety of water birds, ducks and waders.
The walk will be led by Marco McGinty, who knows this patch very well.
