Talk Subject - Saving the Madagascar Pochard
Glyn has worked with some of the world’s rarest bird species, but his longest-running involvement has been with the little-known ducks of Madagascar. In 1989, he searched unsuccessfully for the Madagascar Pochard, a species thought to be extinct at the time. Seventeen years later, in 2006, the duck was rediscovered, marking a turning point in its fortunes; what followed was a concerted effort to help secure the future of this remarkable and unique bird.

Glyn has travelled the world to see birds, particularly wildfowl, and had the opportunity to spend time with many of the rarest species on earth. He received a PhD on the ecology of Madagascar’s endemic dabbling ducks and has been widely recognised by his peers. He is Chair of the IUCN Threatened Waterbirds Specialist Group (TWSG).

The Venue - Partick Burgh Hall @ 7pm
This is near Partick bus, underground and train station (see link for map). Car parking should be available in the adjacent streets e.g. Burgh Hall Street, Peel Street and Fortrose Street once the parking regulation hours have passed (currently after 6pm).
To cover the hall hire, we charge an entrance fee of £3 min. There will be no additional charge for the tea, coffee, and biscuits. The fee will be reduced to £1 for students and for others at the discretion of the committee. It would be very helpful if you could bring with you the exact change. We do not have any debit card handling facility.
