Subject - Where have you Bean Goose?
A light-hearted conversation about our wintering Taiga Bean Geese. Outlining monitoring activities over the last 25 years and explaining how technology has helped us improve our understanding of breeding areas, productivity, migration routes and staging areas etc. Bean Goose Advisory Group members visiting the better monitored staging areas in Sweden and Norway during Autumn 2024 and meeting with our Scandinavian colleagues to share knowledge etc will also be reported on.
Speakers - Angus MacIver has helped monitor the wintering Taiga Bean flock for 25 years and led the conservation effort through the Bean Goose Advisory Group for most of that time. His knowledge of flock feeding and roosting habits is unique and unsurpassed. A long-standing member of the SOC right back to the days of George Waterston. Angus set up the West Galloway SOC Branch in 1975.
Billy Thomson joined the monitoring effort 7 years ago and has been keen to introduce remote monitoring techniques to improve our understanding of the birds while minimising disturbance to the wintering flock.
