Subject - The Climate Catastrophe
‘The canary in the coalmine’ - for birders especially, there couldn’t be a more powerful image that highlights the threats birds face from climate change, and that we face ourselves. This talk sets out the effect climate change is having on our woodland, moorland the coastal birds, and the challenges we all face tackling the climate emergency. In the face of these threats, what are the most effective ways we can protect our birds, and help save ourselves at the same time? The talk focuses on these issues Scotland in particular, and highlights what you can do to help bring about solutions.
Speaker - Simon has worked in conservation in the UK and overseas for over 35 years. Originally from London, he studied Geography in Edinburgh, a move that led to a PhD in mangrove conservation in Belize and work on natural resource projects there and in the Philippines. Returning to the UK in 1999, Simon was Conservation Officer for RSPB in Glasgow for 7 years, covering south and west Scotland. In 2006, he moved to an environmental consultancy where he ran its Scottish ecology team for 17 years. He now runs his own consultancy, assessing impacts of windfarms on birds.
