PRICE: Participants will need to pay for overnight accommodation, travel and meals.
TIME: Leave Glasgow at 8am on Friday 8th; return to Glasgow about 8pm on Sunday 10th May.
VENUES: The Aberdeenshire coastline offers some excellent birdwatching. We plan to visit RSPB Loch of Strathbeg, Rattray Head and the Ythan Estuary. Depending on time and birding, we will also stop at other good sites along the coast, including Montrose Basin. Detailed information about this area can be found on the SOC's excellent App 'Where to Watch Birds in Scotland'
BIRDS WE HOPE TO SEE: A wide range of spring migrants and of breeding seabirds, including terns.
TRAVELLING:
The only way to do this trip is to travel by car. Priority will be given to those willing to car-share, and this will be arranged once the bookings are in. Please
indicate on the booking form whether you prefer to be a passenger or a driver.
Public Transport: Sorry, public transport is not appropriate for this trip.
ACCOMMODATION:
We propose to stay for two nights at the Premier Inn, Aberdeen North (Bridge of Don), AB23 8BP. It is conveniently located and very good value. The rate for a standard room (single or double occupancy) is currently only £91 for two nights. You may of course opt to stay elsewhere.
TERRAIN: Rough paths
OPTICS: Binoculars are essential and a telescope would be very useful.
FOOTWEAR and CLOTHING: Sturdy footwear and warm, waterproof clothing. It is advisable to check the weather forecast beforehand.
