VENUE: Meet at the junction of Moss Road and Middleton Road, Linwood (Google Maps Link); OS Grid ref NS 443650. What3Words: august.dating.spoke You can park along Moss Road anywhere north of this point. We will spend a few hours in the rhubarb fields, have lunch, and then drive a short distance to the south bank of the Clyde in Erskine.
When we arrive at Erskine, there is parking here (Google Maps Link) OS grid ref NS 470709 What3Words: supper.monks.smile (or nearby if this is full). We will walk along the riverfront and around the Newshot Island LNR nature trail.
TRAVELLING: Public transport: Buses 7 and 7A go from Paisley town centre to Bridge Street, Linwood, which is close to our meeting point. McGill's 23 or McGill's X23 buses go from Bridgewater Shopping Centre, Erskine (close to Newshot Island) to Glasgow. By car it takes about 30 minutes from central Glasgow. Car-sharing is encouraged (please indicate on the form if you would like a lift, or if you are happy to give someone else a lift). If you come by public transport, you can rely on getting a lift from Linwood to Newshot Island.
BIRDS WE HOPE TO SEE: The Linwood rhubarb fields are good for finches (including possible Brambling and Twite), Skylark, Stock Dove, thrushes, raptors (including possible Merlin) and Pink-footed Geese. At Newshot Island we will look for ducks (including the drake American Wigeon), waders, Little Grebe, Grey Heron, Cormorant, gulls, and common songbirds along the nature trail.
TERRAIN: Level ground throughout. It is likely to be a bit muddy at the fields.
OPTICS: Binoculars are essential and a telescope would definitely be useful.
FOOTWEAR and CLOTHING: Sturdy boots and warm, waterproof clothing. It is advisable to check the weather forecast beforehand.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Please bring a packed lunch. There are toilets at Tesco on Bridge Street, Linwood and at Morrisons, Bridgewater Shopping Centre, Erskine.
