VENUE: Starting at Aberlady LNR, followed by a visit to Musselburgh lagoons at high tide (1330), then by the sea wall at Musselburgh. Depending on what birds are around we may also stop at Ferny Ness (Longniddry). We can also call at Waterston House, SOC HQ for a short visit to the Bird Art exhibition.

BIRDS WE HOPE TO SEE: Waders such as Bar-tailed Godwit, Grey Plover, Knot and Dunlin. Sea duck such as Common and Velvet Scoter plus Eider. Depending on the weather conditions at the time, perhaps rarer waders like Ruff and Curlew Sandpiper, also species like Little Gull and Skuas, and rarer birds on the sea like Surf Scoter, Red-necked Grebe and Slavonian Grebe.
TRAVELLING:
In this case, public transport is unlikely to be a viable option.
By car:
Suggest allowing around 90 minutes from the middle of Glasgow via the M8/ Edinburgh City By-pass (A720). Take the A198 towards North Berwick.
TERRAIN: Easy paths which sometimes can be muddy.
OPTICS: Binoculars are essential and a telescope would be useful.
FOOTWEAR and CLOTHING: Sturdy boots and suitable outdoor clothing for the conditions. It is advisable to check the weather forecast beforehand.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: There are toilets at Aberlady car park and at Waterston House.
Please bring a packed lunch.
