VENUE: Holy Loch Nature Reserve comprises around 24 acres of ungrazed coastal marsh, vegetated gravel and damp "carr" woodland. There are several burns which flow from the hills into the Holy Loch and over 20 small pools, which support an array of plants, animals and birds.
We will meet Neil at 11:00 at the picnic area on the A815 at OS Grid ref NS154814. There is space to park at least 12 cars.

BIRDS WE HOPE TO SEE: Waders, woodland birds, possibly Osprey and other raptors.
TRAVELLING:
By public transport: train to Gourock, CalMac ferry (foot passengers only) from Gourock pier to Dunoon, bus 484, (486, 489) to Sandbank.
By car: drive to McInroy’s Point (Gourock), cross to Hunter’s Quay (Dunoon) on Western Ferries, drive to meeting point. We should meet at McInroy’s Point in good time to catch the 10:30 ferry, and transfer into fewer cars. The extra cars can be left parked along Ashton Road close to McInroy’s Point. Please indicate when you book whether this arrangement would suit you. Ferry tickets should be bought in one of the two Co-ops en route (cheaper), not on the ferry (more expensive).

TERRAIN: Easy paths and wet, muddy, tidal foreshore.
OPTICS: Binoculars are essential and a telescope would be useful.
FOOTWEAR and CLOTHING: Wellington boots or other waterproof footwear and appropriate clothing for the conditions. It is advisable to check the weather forecast beforehand.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: There are toilets on the ferries, at the ferry terminal in Dunoon, and in Sandbank opposite the Post Office.
