PRICE: Participants will need to pay for overnight accommodation, travel and meals.
TIME: Leave Glasgow at 7am on Wednesday 16th April; return to Glasgow about 7pm on Thursday 17th April.
VENUES: The whole Northumberland Coast is an area of outstanding natural beauty, and there are various good birding spots. Our itinerary will include Beadnell Bay, Seahouses, Hauxley Nature Reserve and Druridge Bay Country Park.
BOOKING: If you wish to go on this trip, please book your overnight accommodation and then contact Donald Wilson to confirm you are joining the trip ([email protected] or 07941 912506).
BIRDS WE HOPE TO SEE: A wide range of breeding seabirds including terns; also passerines, waders, and possibly some rare passage migrants on their spring migration.
TRAVELLING:
By car: Northumberland is about three hours’ drive from Glasgow, and the only way to do this trip is to travel by car. We aim to reach Northumberland by about 10:30am on Wednesday and spend the best part of two days at a number of different locations. It would obviously be preferable to share cars. If you can offer a lift, or would like a lift, please give Donald Wilson (details above) your contact details and say where you live.
Public Transport: Sorry, public transport is not appropriate for this trip but do contact Donald Wilson (details above) who is collecting names from those who can offer a lift to Northumberland.
ACCOMMODATION:
We propose to stay overnight at the Premier Inn, Alnwick, NE66 2PF. The cheapest rate for a standard room (single or double occupancy) is currently £78 per night (at 12 Feb). You may of course choose to stay elsewhere and make your own individual arrangements.
TERRAIN: Rough paths
OPTICS: Binoculars are essential and a telescope would be very useful.
FOOTWEAR and CLOTHING: Sturdy footwear and warm, waterproof clothing. It is advisable to check the weather forecast beforehand.
The outing will be led by Donald Wilson.
