PRICE: Free
TIME: 08:00 – 16:00 (approximate time of return to Hogganfield)
LEADER: Donald Wilson
VENUE:. The walk starts from Gas Brae, Errol, Perthshire PH2 7QS. Grid Ref NO 2526 2267.
TRAVELLING: Meet at 08:00 at Hogganfield Loch car park, Grid Ref NS 638 671 Postcode G33 1QB so that we can drive to Errol in fewer cars. The journey time from Hogganfield to Errol is about 1 hour 20 minutes. If you are intending to come, please contact Ania Owsianka ([email protected]) to make travel arrangements.
BIRDS WE HOPE TO SEE: Our key target will be Bearded Tit, but we would hope to see other reedbed specialists such as Water Rail, as well farmland birds en-route. The SOC's excellent App "Where to Watch Birds in Scotland" has a good descriptive entry for the Tay Reed Beds. On the return journey we can drop in to Scone Palace to look for Hawfinch.
TERRAIN: Rough and muddy paths.
OPTICS: Binoculars are essential and a telescope could be useful.
FOOTWEAR and CLOTHING: Sturdy boots and warm, waterproof clothing. It is advisable to check the weather forecast beforehand.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Please come prepared with food and drink for a whole day’s birding.
NB: If the weather forecast for Thursday or Friday is much better than for Wednesday, this outing may be postponed by a day or two. Please contact Ania Owsianka ([email protected]) to confirm the date, and/or check SOC Clyde branch website (www.birdsinclyde.scot) and Clyde Birding on Twitter.
