Branch Outings Organiser Vacancy
Outings play a very important role in the activities of SOC Clyde branch. They enable us to visit good birding sites in the company of leaders who know the area; learn from those more experienced; see rare/scarce birds; take photographs; and most importantly allow us to socialise with other people interested in wildlife, especially birds. We know that outings also encourage people to join the SOC and become more active in the branch.
Ania Owsianka has done an excellent job as the Outings Organiser for over three years. She now wants to take a break, so we are looking for a new Outings Organiser. This role could well be filled by a team of two or three people, rather than a single person. Ania will be able to assist the new Organiser(s) to ensure a smooth handover. Her Outings Report for 2025/26 forms part of the AGM papers; please have a look here for more details.
Organising the outings takes 4-5 hours per month, and comprises the following tasks:
On behalf of the SOC Clyde branch committee, I would like to thank Ania for all her hard work over the last few years - we are very grateful.
Best wishes,
Zul Bhatia

Organising the outings takes 4-5 hours per month, and comprises the following tasks:
- Sketch out a programme of outings for the year ahead (a couple of meetings / email exchanges per year).
- Contact potential leaders to establish a date and venue.
- Write a description of each outing for the Birds in Clyde website. Given that we often go to a site previously visited, most of the information will already be prepared.
- A week before the outing, send an email to all those who have booked online, so that participants can organise car-sharing.
- Ensure that a report is written up, either by the leader or another participant (There are over 50 past reports on the branch website. The Outings Organiser does not need to know how to upload text to the website or create the online booking forms - our webmaster will look after that for you.
