Whether you are new to birdwatching, an experienced birder, or somewhere in between, the purpose of this website is to get you involved and further your enjoyment of Scotland's wonderful birdlife.
The Scottish Ornithologists' Club (SOC) was established in 1936 and exists to promote the study, enjoyment and conservation of wild birds and their habitats across Scotland. This is the website of the Clyde Branch of the SOC, which coordinates recording and activities, with regular meetings and outings.

JUNE UPDATE

Our June total was 141* species. (*including Hobby and Red-footed Falcon which are subject to review by the relevant committees)
This compares with 148 last June (which last year included Hooded Crow). We've now recorded 190* species this year which is six fewer than at the same time last year.
Species not seen by June 2026 but recorded by June 2025 (16): Arctic Tern, Arctic Skua, Avocet, Black-necked Grebe, Brent Goose, Dotterel, Hawfinch, Iceland Gull, Icterine Warbler, Lesser Scaup, Little Stint, Snow Bunting, Storm Petrel, White Stork, Wryneck (plus Hooded Crow no longer considered a separate species).
Species seen by June 2026 but not recorded by June 2025 (10): Bittern, Black Tern, Cetti's Warbler, Crane, Hobby*, Grey Plover, Red-footed Falcon*, Ruff, Spotted Redshank & Tundra Bean Goose.

Website updates
- NEW: The June 2026 grapevine records have now been added to the website. You can check back on our Grapevine archive under the "Recording & Reporting" section in the navigation. Do let us know what you find this month.
- NEW: Our next outing is on August 15th. John Dryden will lead an outing to RSPB Baron's Haugh. More details our Outings Page.
- The Clyde Bird Reporting Panel have updated the list of species which require a written description, when seen in Clyde. See here for more on this list. Iceland Gull and Glaucous Gull both now require a written description. Little Egret no longer requires a written description.
- An update on our Glasgow Peregrine Project - the birds have two chicks this year - they are growing fast and have been named Winston and Isa following a public vote by Glasgow City Council. The first three Peregrine Watches have been excellent with good views of the adult birds. The next one takes place at University of Strathclyde car park, Martha Street, Glasgow G1 1JN on Saturday 13th June 10am-12pm.
